Beit Jala Pharmaceutical Company (BJPC)

Beit Jala Pharmaceutical Company (BJPC) is a public shareholding company established in 1969 after the June War by a group of physicians and pharmacists who believed in the importance of establishing a Palestinian pharmaceutical industry to reduce reliance on imported medicines. The company produces effective, safe, and high-quality generic medicines and is strategically located in Beit Jala, south of Jerusalem, in a clean and pollution-free environment.

The company’s facilities span an area of 9,500 square meters and include manufacturing and packaging zones, raw material warehouses, quality control laboratories, research and development labs, as well as administrative offices and quality assurance and engineering departments. BJPC employs advanced engineering systems such as HVAC systems, purified water systems (WFI), compressed air systems, and steam generation systems. Around 230 employees work at the company, 80% of whom hold university degrees in fields such as pharmacy, chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering.

The company adopted quality and environmental management systems in the late 1990s and earned ISO9001 certification in 2002 and ISO14001 certification in 2004. It has also achieved Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certifications from Palestine, Jordan, Europe, and several African countries, enabling it to export its pharmaceutical products to various countries, including Jordan, Algeria, Yemen, Oman, Qatar, Iraq, Macau, and Bolivia. BJPC produces around 180 pharmaceutical products, including solid, sterile, and non-sterile liquid forms, as well as semi-solid formulations. Approximately 20% of its production is exported.

Recently, the company initiated a new project to produce sterile products such as injectable medications and sterile eye ointments. A dedicated building for this type of production is being prepared to meet GMP standards, with plans to obtain Palestinian certification for the project within the current year.
